Ironclad on the road to success

1. FC Union Berlin has established itself in the premier league - and with Rieck is managing the continuous growth in the merchandise sector.

Rieck has been responsible for the logistics of 1. FC Union Berlin’s merchandising articles since 2018. During this time, the Irons have not only succeeded in making the leap into the first division. They have now established themselves in the top flight and are taking part in European competitions for the second time in a row. This is generating enthusiasm among the fans – and steadily increasing quantities of merchandise. “For us, Rieck is part of the success,” emphasizes Gordon Knebel, Head of Merchandising and Merchandise Logistics at Union Berlin. “Even with unexpected order peaks, Rieck always acts extremely flexibly and with high delivery quality.”


Rieck completes several thousand orders every month – from scarves and jerseys to watches and air mattresses in the Union design. The club’s most important sales channel is its own online store. Rieck also supplies the seven Union stores with goods on a daily basis and provides value-added services such as flocking jerseys with players’ names or individual requests.

We are currently investing a seven-figure sum in a four-storey racking system at the logistics center in Berlin-Schönefeld to increase storage space and make handling even more efficient. And the partnership is not standing still in the area of shipping packaging either: the arsenals have been receiving their goods in reusable boxes right from the start. The packaging of individual goods is also currently being changed: Instead of conventional bubble bags, Rieck uses environmentally friendly padded cushions filled with shredded waste cardboard.
