Birthday in Großbeeren

We moved into our forwarding location and headquarters 20 years ago. Always with an eye on the future.

As befits a forwarding company, in 2002 we moved smoothly and just-in-time with 230 employees, thousands of pallets and cartons to our new location at the gates of the capital. Our motivation: space. For all employees from forwarding to administration. For the growing number of pallets and outsourcing projects from our customers. And last but not least, space for ideas and innovations.

Since then, we have filled this space with joy and commitment – and, of course, with constant change. We are constantly modernizing in order to always meet the requirements of our customers, but also to continuously expand our environmental measures.

Security and speed have priority. Digital clearance has the highest IT security and encryption standards. Import customs clearance during transportation ensures that there are no delays in the transport chain. And as a regulated agent with AEO status and a direct ATLAS connection, we can save our customers time and money by facilitating customs clearance.

With modern systems, we create the technical prerequisites for forward-looking logistics solutions.

Scanner technology is at the heart of logistics. Regular updates are also essential – both for the work of delivery drivers, to support scheduling in local transport and in the transshipment hall. Our video system has been completely overhauled and equipped with more functionalities: For example, if you enter a consignment number in search mode, the video image in which the package you are looking for was scanned is shown within seconds.

The demand for pallet spaces has grown to such an extent that we moved out with parts of the warehouse area in 2005 – today our Contract Logistics/Fulfillment division offers a further 40,000 spaces on 30,000 square meters in the immediate vicinity and serves around 40 customers.

To conserve resources, we installed a photovoltaic system in 2021 and gradually converted the hall lighting to LED – we are currently replacing the yard lighting. And there has been no standstill in the fleet either: almost the entire forklift truck fleet now runs on environmentally friendly lithium-ion batteries and is also connected to Wi-Fi to provide real-time data on utilization, charge status, vibrations or error messages. In spring 2022, the next generation of Wiesel shunting vehicles will be deployed and, in addition to bridge vehicles, more Euro 6 vehicles will also be on the road for us.

But it’s not just the equipment that makes a location. Good work also depends on good communication with one another. In Großbeeren, all departments were located in one building for the first time. We still benefit from the short distances and close networking today.

The short distances have further improved internal communication - for fast, flexible solutions for our customers.

Transparent, reliable and close communication is important to us – both internally and externally. We are therefore delighted to be celebrating a second anniversary: 20 years ago, we also launched our magazine Rieck Aktuell. Since then, we have regularly provided customers, employees and partner companies with news from our Rieck world – nowadays, of course, also in digital form. Always up to date: Our Rieck magazine is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
