Berlin / Rostock, January 31, 2018 – The Rieck Logistics Group has restructured the management of its subsidiary HOMTRANS. Andreas Engelke has been in charge of operations since January 1, 2018. He is supported by the supra-regional management of Rieck Systemspedition in Berlin. The long-standing HOMTRANS Managing Director and former owner Gerold Claus retired at the turn of the year.

With Andreas Engelke, HOMTRANS and the Rieck Logistics Group are relying on an experienced logistics professional and trusted employee. The 40-year-old has been working at HOMTRANS in Kavelstorf near Rostock since January 2012, previously as Sales Manager. “I’m looking forward to my new tasks,” says Andreas Engelke. “Together with the entire team at HOMTRANS and Rieck, we want to expand intelligent solutions in the area of contract logistics and the degree of automation in systematic order processing.”

Since January 1, the long-standing forwarding manager Hans-Ulrich Leesch has also been the deputy branch manager, taking over the operational management of HOMTRANS together with Andreas Engelke. “In line with the motto “Never change a winning team”, we have put together the management team in Rostock from two experienced employees with excellent knowledge of the regional market,” says Philipp Strenge, shareholder of the Rieck Logistics Group. Andreas Engelke and Hans-Ulrich Leesch receive strategic support from the Berlin managing directors of Rieck Systemspedition, Detlef Helsing, Michael Gruner and Christian Stuhr.

Extended logistics area

In order to create more space for new and existing customers, HOMTRANS has expanded its existing logistics area from 14,000 square meters to 23,000 square meters in recent months. Since the beginning of 2018, the Rieck subsidiary has been operating in the new 7,000 square meter hall with a hazardous goods warehouse and a 2,000 square meter outdoor storage area. More than 150 employees are currently working on transport and logistics projects at the Kavelstorf site. HOMTRANS’ customers primarily include medium-sized companies from the region, but also well-known corporations from the automotive and industrial plant sectors.

Successful development

The history of HOMTRANS is inextricably linked with the name Gerold Claus. On March 6, 1990, he founded HOMTRANS together with Hamburg freight forwarder Peter Dezelske, one of the first joint venture companies in the “former GDR”. During his time as Managing Director, Gerold Claus developed HOMTRANS into a successful service provider offering transportation, warehousing and logistics services as well as air and sea freight handling. With the gradual transfer of shares to the Rieck Logistics Group, Gerold Claus set the course for a successful future for the company at an early stage.
