Berlin / Rostock, June 29, 2017 – First Hamburg, then Berlin, now Rostock: the Rieck Logistics Group is launching its third new construction project. Following the two logistics centers near Hamburg and in Berlin, construction work has now begun at the Rieck subsidiary HOMTRANS in Kavelstorf, south of Rostock. In order to create sufficient space for new customer projects, the existing logistics area will be expanded from the current 14,000 square meters to 23,000 square meters. This will also create space for new jobs – ten additional jobs are expected to be created here by the end of the year.
On a 23,000 square meter site, Rieck subsidiary HOMTRANS is building a 7,000 square meter hall extension with two modern hazardous goods warehouses and installing a new pallet racking system. In addition, over 2,000 square meters of outdoor storage space will be created. The investment sum is in the mid seven-figure range. With the expansion of the existing facility, HOMTRANS is further strengthening its position as a logistics service provider with one of the largest and most modern facilities in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The preparatory construction work for the new hall section began in May – the Rieck subsidiary will commence operations in the extension at the end of the year. HOMTRANS will then start providing forwarding and logistics services for well-known new and existing customers from the automotive and industrial plant sectors. HOMTRANS is already organizing the connection to the European hub in southern Germany for one of these customers. “We are very much looking forward to working with our new customers,” says Andreas Engelke, authorized signatory and sales manager at HOMTRANS. “With the expansion of space and the modern hall equipment, we are creating the perfect conditions for the successful handling of our logistics projects.”
Logistics specialist from the north
Rieck initially acquired a 35% stake in HOMTRANS in 2008 and has gradually increased its holding. Since 2015, HOMTRANS Service GmbH & Co. KG has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Rieck Logistics Group. The Rostock-based
company has been carrying out regional transport as well as general cargo system transports throughout Germany and Europe as a partner of IDS Logistik GmbH since 1990. HOMTRANS offers sophisticated warehousing solutions and project logistics with XXL transports and also distributes the product SAKRESIV, a silicosis-free blasting agent for building restoration and corrosion protection. Over 150 employees work on customer projects at the Kavelstorf site near Rostock.
Two new multi-user logistics centers
Rieck recently moved into a new 23,000 square meter building directly on the A1 freeway southwest of Hamburg. At the logistics facility in VGP Park near Rade, Rieck Projekt Kontrakt Logistik (RPKL) primarily handles customer projects from the high-tech and consumer sectors – often in cooperation with the air and sea freight department based in Hamburg. Rieck is also experiencing strong growth in contract logistics in Berlin. For this reason, a new logistics center of around 30,000 square meters is currently being built for this division in the south of Berlin. Rieck is expected to commence operations here in July.
