Rieck in China with a new structure

Published on 19.04.2016

Berlin, April 19, 2016 – On March 1, 2016, Rieck founded its own company in China: Rieck Sea Air Cargo International (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

Rieck was previously the majority shareholder in a joint venture in the People’s Republic. “We have ended the cooperation in order to have even more room for maneuver in the Chinese market in the future,” explains Oliver-Karsten Thormählen, Managing Director of Rieck Sea Air Cargo International (RSACI). “In our wholly owned company, we can align the entire country organization with the strategic goals of the Rieck Group, with short decision-making paths and greater efficiency. We want to use this structure to expand the product portfolio, further optimize quality and, above all, to expand intermodal transport within China.”

More power, more safety

Improved standardized processes, a powerful uniform IT solution, a diverse customer structure and the strengthening of intra-Asian transport – these are the goals of the young company. “In the future, we want to build up Rieck in China in the same way as in Germany. The Sea Air Cargo division will therefore integrate contract logistics and overland transportation in China in the future and provide customers with a combination of services,” explains Oliver-Karsten Thormählen. “In this way, we want to strengthen synergies, particularly in the area of contract logistics. Fulfilment for e-commerce customers, for example, will benefit from this.”

In terms of IT, too, there should be no difference between Europe and Asia for Rieck customers in future: “We will quickly implement our new IT solution for sea and air freight from Germany, including order management and track & trace tool, in China to ensure transparent, traceable processes worldwide,” says Oliver-Karsten Thormählen. A standardized IT system also means fewer interfaces and therefore more security.

More sectors, more imports

Another goal is to diversify the customer structure. “The automotive industry is still very much in focus,” says Oliver Karsten Thormählen. “However, our expertise doesn’t stop there – we already have long-standing, successful customer relationships with well-known manufacturers of household and consumer electronics, toy producers and the medical, chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical engineering industries. In general, we offer individually tailored logistics services for almost all sectors.” In addition to traditional export services such as procurement and consolidation, the services offered also include import processing, deconsolidation, interim storage and distribution.

Reliable employees and partners

With more than 25 years of experience in business with China, including over ten years as the majority shareholder in a German-Chinese joint venture, Rieck has an excellent network of reliable partners. On the one hand, Rieck relies on its own qualified and experienced employees. On the other hand, RSACI Shanghai benefits from Rieck’s worldwide network of partners – the medium-sized companies in this network stand for the same values. “This network has given us a global presence in China right from the start,” says Oliver-Karsten Thormählen. “Our proven partner companies and our own qualified employees are the key to our success. They stand for the proven Rieck standards and structures.”
