Berlin / Dresden, August 21, 2017 – Successful development: In 1992, the Rieck Logistics Group founded a branch in Saxony. Today, the Dresden site can look back on 25 years of company history, offering national and international system transports, part and full load transports, contract logistics as well as air and sea freight services. Rieck celebrated the anniversary with customers, business partners, companions and employees at a big summer party on August 19, 2017.
Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Rieck family business decided to open a location in eastern Germany. It quickly became clear that the region around Dresden offered great potential for the transport and logistics service provider. This is why Rieck acquired the forwarding part of the former Dresden road haulage company in 1991. The existing facilities in the city were rented and modernized, and 30 employees from the commercial and industrial sectors were taken on.
Ulrich Rieck & Söhne Internationale Speditionsgesellschaft mbH & Co KG, Dresden branch, was officially founded on January 1, 1992. “It was a really exciting time, the country was in a state of upheaval at the time,” says Hartmut Rieck, partner of the Rieck Logistics Group. “Nobody could say at the time whether we would be successful. Looking back, we know: The decision to move to Dresden was a good one and the right one.” This is also reflected in the business development of the location: with steadily increasing customer numbers and growing demand from industrial and commercial companies for qualified transport and logistics services, Rieck has more than doubled its turnover in Dresden in the last 25 years.
Range of services expanded
Initially, the company mainly offered national system transports as a partner of IDS Logistik GmbH as well as direct transports within Germany. European overland transportation was added in 1994. As the services expanded, the need for space increased: the company therefore built a new 3,000 square meter forwarding facility in 1995 and relocated its headquarters from the city centre to Ottendorf-Okrilla, just a few kilometers away. Rieck has also been organizing international air and sea freight transports in Dresden for more than ten years.
“Our transports connect markets all over the world,” says Gert Schneider, Head of International Freight Forwarding at Rieck in Dresden. “Our customers come from the retail and heating and air conditioning sectors as well as the electronics industry, industrial furniture production and mechanical engineering.”
In addition to international transport solutions, logistics services are also in demand in Dresden. In 2006, another 4,000 square meter logistics center was built. Here, Rieck employees provide value-added services such as customer-specific order picking, packaging and labeling or display construction.
Employees from the very beginning
Having started out with 30 employees, Rieck now employs 55 people in Ottendorf-Okrilla, plus six trainees. Even employees from the very beginning are still with the company: a total of nine colleagues celebrated their 25th anniversary with the company this year.
Rieck hosted a big summer party on August 19, 2017. Around 120 guests attended the company anniversary – customers, business partners, employees and companions from the last 25 years were invited along with their families. In addition to a welcome address by Philipp Strenge, shareholder of the Rieck Logistics Group, Rieck offered visitors a colorful supporting program with fun and games.
