Großbeeren near Berlin / Kavelstorf, January 27, 2015. The forwarding company HOMTRANS Service GmbH & Co. KG (Kavelstorf/Rostock) has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Rieck Logistics Group since the beginning of the year. Rieck acquired a 35 percent stake in HOMTRANS in 2008 and has gradually expanded its holding. The remaining 30 percent of the shares have now been transferred.

With this strategic expansion, Rieck is further expanding its activities in distribution and contract logistics. The HOMTRANS terminal in Kavelstorf near Rostock, which opened in 2012, is the largest logistics facility in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with 14,000 square meters. In addition to handling areas for general cargo and cross-docking, it also has a hazardous materials warehouse for the highest requirements – including for explosive substances.

Company founder Gerold Claus will continue to be responsible for the management of HOMTRANS, which also has a subsidiary in St. Petersburg, Russia. “A strong shareholder who is internationally active and has the perspective of an owner-managed company is the ideal future prospect for HOMTRANS,” says Gerold Claus.

On March 6, 2015, HOMTRANS celebrates its 25th anniversary. The company has been working closely with Rieck for many years. Both use synergies – in contract logistics, national transportation and international business. Within the IDS general cargo cooperation, Rieck is the franchisee in the Berlin/Brandenburg and Saxony regions, while HOMTRANS is the franchisee for the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region. This means a combined area coverage of 71,900 square kilometers.
