Press release: Start in Oberkrämer

Published on 05.12.2022

Großbeeren/Oberkrämer, 05.12.2022. Today, the new facility in Oberkrämer, Brandenburg, goes into operation. Goods can be stored and handled on 23,000 square meters of floor space. A total of 160 new jobs will be created at the site.

The new site is located in VGP Park Oberkrämer, in the north of Berlin. The terminal has 12,000 square meters of space for handling shipments, 8,000 square meters of storage space and around 3,000 square meters of office space. A total of 111 loading and unloading gates are used for efficient incoming and outgoing goods.

The two operational divisions of forwarding and logistics under one roof offer the advantage that picked goods and pallets from the warehouse can be loaded directly onto the general cargo lines. A total of 100 local transport trucks start their tours from Oberkrämer, with the majority belonging to the company’s own fleet. This allows Rieck to respond flexibly to customer requests.

Optimized processes

“With the new building, we are not only equipped for the further increase in consignment volumes,” explains Stefan Rieck, Managing Partner. “We were also able to redistribute the delivery areas in order to optimize processes and shorten distances.”

In future, the north of Berlin as well as the north and north-east of Brandenburg will be supplied from Oberkrämer, while the south will be supplied from the headquarters in Großbeeren. Accordingly, 50 percent of the volumes will move from Großbeeren to Oberkrämer at the start – including both own customer projects and tours for the general cargo cooperation IDS. Various new customers from the B2B and B2C (fulfillment) sectors have also started storage in Oberkrämer. At the start, capacity utilization will be just under 90 percent.

Green operation

Thanks to the shorter tours, the vehicles make more stops and thus improve the CO2 footprint at the same time. An ecological focus was also important to Rieck when operating the facility:
A photovoltaic system is currently being installed on the roof. The electricity is to be used to power the terminal and, in the future, the fleet. The site not only has charging stations for cars, but also two 180 kW e-charging stations for trucks. The interior and exterior are illuminated with LEDs. The entire truck fleet consists of Euro6 vehicles.

Rieck realized the construction together with the VGP Group – just like the logistics terminal in Rade near Hamburg in 2017. The investment sum for the new site is around 28 million euros. The company is currently still looking for forklift drivers and drivers. The vacancies can be found here:
