Press release: Rieck builds new terminal near Berlin

Published on 16.12.2021

The excavators are rolling in Oberkrämer: the Rieck Logistik Group is currently building a modern freight forwarding and logistics terminal in the municipality in the Oberhavel district of Brandenburg. Around 26 million euros are being invested in the new site, which is due to start operations in August 2022. More than 80 new jobs will be created on site. There are still vacancies to be filled.

Ultra-modern and conveniently located: The new Rieck terminal is being built in the VGP Park Berlin-Oberkrämer in the northwest of Berlin and will have around 23,000 square meters of floor space. The logistics center will be equipped according to the latest standards – also in ecological terms. For example, the freight forwarding and logistics facility will have a solar roof to produce renewable energy and electric charging points for trucks and cars.

Once completed, the terminal will have 12,000 square meters of space for handling shipments and 8,000 square meters of storage space. Around 3,000 square meters of office space are also planned. The new facility will have 103 gates for the smooth entry and exit of goods, and the outside areas will offer space for 55 swap bodies.

Rieck significantly expands capacities

“In recent years, we have seen a continuous increase in volumes, particularly in the Berlin area – the new capacities are therefore urgently needed,” explains Stefan Rieck, Managing Partner of the Rieck Logistics Group. “We are therefore delighted that the construction work at the ideal location for us is progressing on schedule.”
While the new building is being constructed in the north-west of Berlin, Rieck’s headquarters are located in Großbeeren to the south-east of the capital. “With the new terminal, we are optimizing our routes in the Berlin region,” says Stefan Rieck. “Thanks to the shorter distances, the vehicles not only make more stops – we are also improving our carbon footprint.”
Thanks to its location on the Berlin ring road (A10), the A24 to the north can also be reached quickly. Stefan Rieck: “This is another plus point for us, as it not only gives us even better connections to our locations in Hamburg, but also to our branch in Kavelstorf near Rostock.”

Operation to start as soon as possible

Earthworks are currently underway on the 67,000 square meter site. At the beginning of next year, the terminal will grow upwards when the first concrete supports are put in place. Then things will move in quick succession: as soon as the hall scaffolding is in place, the roof construction, side walls and interior work will follow. Racking systems will be installed and forklifts, furniture and equipment will move in as early as July 2022. Stefan Rieck: “We will then celebrate the opening in mid-August and start operations with a new team.” Interested parties can apply directly online at www.rieck-logistik.de.
