Press release: Rieck and VGP lay first pillars for new terminal

Großbeeren/Oberkrämer, 07.03.2022. The Rieck Logistics Group’s new terminal building in Oberkrämer, Brandenburg, was launched today with the first concrete columns. Detlef Helsing, Managing Director of System Forwarding at the Rieck Logistics Group, and Julian Frewer, Project Manager at VGP Industriebau GmbH – the VGP Group is developing the new building – accompanied the setting of the columns.

Rieck’s new freight forwarding facility at VGP Park Berlin-Oberkrämer in north-west Berlin is being built with an investment of around 26 million euros. It is scheduled to go into operation in August 2022. “We are delighted that our building is now growing upwards following the punctual completion of the earthworks – with the first pillars as a clearly visible sign,” says Stefan Rieck, Managing Partner of the Rieck Logistics Group.

The excavators have been rolling on the 67,000 square meter site in Oberkrämer since autumn last year. They prepared the site for the actual start of construction.

Proven partnership

The new building is being constructed by the VGP Group, a European provider of high-quality logistics and commercial real estate. “With the current construction project, we are continuing our successful collaboration with the Rieck Logistics Group,” says Darius Scheible, Managing Director of VGP Industriebau GmbH. “We already built a logistics terminal for the Rieck Group in Rade near Hamburg in 2017 and have come to appreciate Rieck as a reliable and growth-oriented partner.”

The new Rieck terminal will have around 23,000 square meters of floor space. Around half of the space will be used for handling shipments, 8,000 square meters for storage and 3,000 square meters for offices. A total of 103 loading and unloading gates will ensure the smooth entry and exit of goods. A solar roof will produce green electricity and charging stations for electric vehicles underline the sustainability claim.

The concrete pillars set today mark the start of construction; a total of 170 pillars will be erected. In just a few weeks, the shell of the building will be visible on the site in VGP Park. The roof structure will then be assembled on this basic framework and the side walls installed. The interior work is then planned and the racking systems, furniture and forklifts will be installed in July.

Ideal location in the growth region of Berlin

With the property in the north-west of Berlin, the Rieck Logistics Group is significantly expanding its capacities in the capital region. Rieck has already been operating its headquarters south-east of the capital in Großbeeren for 20 years and also has a logistics location in Berlin-Schönefeld and a location for air freight shipments at BER. “Our consignment volumes in the Berlin area have increased significantly in recent years,” explains Stefan Rieck. “And we also see great potential in the region in the future. Together with VGP, we are now creating the capacity to grow further in the future.”

The convenient location of the new Rieck site on the Berlin ring road (A10) is not only ideal for receiving and shipping goods – future employees will also be able to reach the terminal quickly. “We are creating over 80 new jobs on site, not all of which have been filled yet,” says Detlef Helsing. “We are looking forward to starting operations with a young, committed team in August.”
