Press release IDS: expands its network

Now three locations in the greater Berlin area

Kleinostheim, December 5, 2022: The general cargo cooperation IDS Logistik GmbH is further expanding its network capacities in the capital region in order to accommodate the increasing volume of shipments with service and quality. The new Rieck depot in Oberkrämer, Brandenburg, north of Berlin, has now been integrated into the IDS network as the 52nd IDS location.

By increasing the density of its depot network with additional locations, IDS is underlining its strategy of further expanding network stability, particularly in fast-growing areas and by double-staffing depots in metropolitan regions. IDS is now going one step further. “With over 6.2 million inhabitants and numerous new industrial settlements, the greater Berlin area offers considerable growth potential. With the triple staffing, we will be able to serve Berlin and the surrounding area even more efficiently in future. The additional depot will enable us to produce even more flexibly and deliver the highest level of service and quality,” says IDS Managing Director Michael Bargl.

Shorter distances over the last mile are becoming increasingly important. They help to counter rising costs due to driver shortages, higher fuel prices, driving bans in city centers and longer journey times as a result of traffic jams. In addition, network densification helps us to react even faster and better to increasingly volatile volume fluctuations and to ensure flexible balancing within the network in the event of high shipment volumes or bottlenecks.

Sustainably into the future

Rieck’s new terminal on a 67,000 square meter site at VGP Park Berlin-Oberkrämer went into operation at the beginning of December after a construction period of just under a year. It has around 23,000 square meters of floor space. Around half of the hall space is intended for consignment handling, 8,000 square meters for storage and 3,000 square meters for offices. A total of 111 loading and unloading gates ensure a smooth flow of goods. Rieck is creating around 60 new jobs for people from the region directly on site in Oberkrämer and a further 100 for drivers in local transport.
“We attach great importance to sustainability and environmental protection. With numerous measures at all locations, we are already taking responsibility for this and future generations and for a greener future. This is also evident in Oberkrämer,” explains Stefan Rieck, Managing Partner of the Rieck Logistics Group. A solar roof at the new depot produces green electricity for the operation of the facility and, in the future, also for the vehicle fleet. The charging infrastructure with charging points for cars and dedicated 180 kW e-charging stations for trucks is already planned.

With the launch of the third IDS depot in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, the general cargo cooperation is redistributing the delivery areas between the new location in Oberkrämer, the Rieck headquarters in Großbeeren and the IDS depot in Potsdam, operated by Spedition Krage. In future, Oberkrämer will supply the north of Berlin and the surrounding area of Brandenburg.
The new depot of IDS shareholder Rieck Logistik Group in Oberkrämer, Brandenburg, has become the third IDS location in the greater Berlin area with 111 loading and unloading gates.
