IDS Logistik invests in the latest scanner technology
5,000 new MDE devices rolled out
Kleinostheim, April 19, 2023 – Only the cyclical replacement of mobile data capture (MDC) devices ensures the quality and stability of services. The sixth generation of scanners with the latest technology and state-of-the-art applications has now been launched at IDS Logistik GmbH. More than 5,000 new MDE devices were successively put into operation in the 54 IDS depots between January 2023 and mid-April 2023.
“With the new MDE devices, we are primarily increasing IT security. Thanks to the Mobile Device Management software, future security updates will be installed on the MDE devices via the depot clients via WLAN at predefined timeslots under central control,” explains IDS Managing Director Dr. Michael Bargl. “This ensures that the monthly updates are carried out promptly and completely on all 5,000 MDEs – without the need for IT administrators to intervene on site.”
The technology
In addition to “lighter, flatter and faster”, an even better camera and a larger, higher-resolution display, the new “CT45XP” device from Honeywell has a significantly improved scan engine with ranges of up to 10 meters between the driver and barcode label. The “CT45XP” uses the latest Android 11 operating system and is state-of-the-art with its modern components and the latest technology.
The advantages
Thanks to the improved processors, the Honeywell scanner works significantly faster and has a considerably longer battery life with its Li-ion smart batteries. In practice, the scanning beam’s long range of up to 10 meters makes life much easier for drivers. Driver Bettina Jantsch, who works for IDS partner Andreas Schmid, appreciates this: “It’s very helpful that you can now scan labels that are further away without any problems.” And the smartphone character of the new scanner is also well received: “The new MDE is less bulky than the old one, which is very beneficial for me with my small hands”.
