Over 23,000 square meters of new building: More space for Rieck in Hamburg

Berlin / Hamburg, July 14, 2016 – Larger, more modern, more efficient: contract logistics at the Rieck site in Hamburg will be moving to a new property from the beginning of 2017. The 23,700 square meter hall and office complex is being built by industrial park developer VGP around 20 kilometers southwest of the Hanseatic city, directly on the Autobahn 1 near Rade between Hamburg and Bremen. The contracts for a minimum ten-year lease term at VGP Park Hamburg were signed at the end of May.

Construction work has already begun and between February and May 2017, Rieck Projekt Kontrakt Logistik (RPKL) will move in stages from its current location in Hamburg-Billbrook to the new building. “In recent years, we have increasingly reached the limits of our capacity in Hamburg’s Kolumbusstraße,” says Gerd Jobmann, Managing Director of RPKL Hamburg. “In future, we will have significantly more space and a warehouse infrastructure that meets the latest standards. This combination offers us additional options – also for further growth.” RPKL currently has around 17,000 square meters of space in Hamburg. In contract logistics, Rieck primarily handles customer projects from the high-tech and consumer sectors – often in cooperation with colleagues from Rieck Sea Air Cargo International.

Modern IT structure

The new logistics hall has a total area of 23,100 square meters as a pallet high-bay, block and WGK warehouse – in future there will be space for a total of 35,000 to 40,000 pallets. The IT structure will also be state-of-the-art; for example, stable WLAN coverage is planned for the entire hall area. “This will allow us to integrate the latest warehouse management software at the site,” says Gerd Jobmann happily. The office and administration area covers a further 600 square meters. The entire building complex meets current ecological standards in terms of thermal insulation and energy efficiency. Rieck is financing the IT equipment, the technical equipment and the interior design – the investment sum is in the lower seven-figure range.

Air and sea freight remains

Rieck’s contract logistics and air and sea freight divisions are currently located in Kolumbusstraße in Hamburg-Billbrook. Rieck has been operating at this location for 30 years. Rieck Sea Air Cargo International will retain its headquarters in Kolumbusstraße.
