New building for Rieck in Berlin: contract logistics on 21,000 square meters

Berlin, October 19, 2016 – Rieck Projekt Kontrakt Logistik in Berlin will be moving into a new property from July 2017. The logistics real estate developer SEGRO is building the 21,000 square meter warehouse and office complex on the site of the new SEGRO Airport Park Berlin. The contracts for a minimum ten-year lease term were signed in September.

Until now, Rieck Projekt Kontrakt Logistik has been based in Porschestraße in Berlin. With the move, Rieck is responding to the growth of recent years and at the same time expanding its services in the Contract Logistics division. “We have been offering our customers combined B2B and B2C warehouse processing under one roof for some time now,” says Patrick von Oy, Managing Director of Rieck Projekt Kontrakt Logistik Berlin. “In order to meet the increasing demand for this service in the future, we have been looking for a facility in which we can divide our storage space precisely according to our own requirements and with which we can continue to grow.”

The new Rieck site comprises two halls and offers a total of 19,800 square meters of space for block and high-bay warehouses as well as areas for handling and order picking. The four-storey order picking tower also increases the storage density. Around 1,200 square meters are available for offices and social areas.

Central location

The SEGRO Airport Park Berlin is being built directly on the B96a and offers good connections to the highway network. “In addition to the size, we were also impressed by the location,” emphasizes Patrick von Oy. “With this location, we have found an ideal solution for both our customers and our employees.” The new location in Berlin-Schönefeld scores points thanks to its proximity to the company’s own forwarding facility at the Rieck headquarters in Großbeeren, among other things. “We will run shuttle services between the two locations several times a day,” explains Patrick von Oy. “Even after the move, the journey time will still be less than 20 minutes.”

The new location is easy to reach with the Berlin S-Bahn. “Other locations would have meant significantly longer travel times for our employees. That was also a decisive factor for us,” says Patrick von Oy.

Option for expansion

Rieck is financing the IT equipment, the forklift and warehouse technology as well as the interior fittings – the investment sum is in the seven-figure range. “This is a good investment in the future,” explains Patrick von Oy. “The location offers ideal conditions for further growth with our services and our customers.” This is another reason why Rieck has already secured options for two further hall spaces at SEGRO Airport Park Berlin.
