30 years of HOMTRANS

Published on 06.03.2020

On March 6, HOMTRANS celebrated its 30th birthday and with it a piece of the German-German success story. The wholly-owned subsidiary of the Rieck Logistics Group was founded in spring 1990 as one of the first joint venture companies in the “former GDR”. The founders from Rostock and Hamburg initially worked in an almost 2,000 square meter former state security warehouse in Dummerstorf near Rostock.

Today, the new HOMTRANS terminal in Kavelstorf is one of the largest and most modern logistics facilities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. On an area of 23,000 square meters, the company offers transport and logistics services as well as air and sea freight handling. Each year, the employees handle 340,000 general cargo shipments and 250,000 warehouse orders. The space expansion, which only went into operation at the beginning of 2018, was already fully utilized after a record-breaking time.

HOMTRANS has also developed rapidly in other areas: The company has the largest hazardous goods warehouse in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and deals with topics such as digitalization and automatic route planning in the transport sector. So 30 years of HOMTRANS also means 30 years of industry history.
