25 plus 1 – Rieck continues to grow in China

Published on 15.03.2017

Berlin, March 15, 2017 – Rieck has many years of experience in the Chinese market and will continue to drive forward its strategic focus there. Rieck founded its own company in China a year ago. Since then, Rieck Sea Air Cargo International (Shanghai) Co, Ltd. has acquired new customers and integrated the IT system of the Rieck Logistics Group. The company celebrated its first anniversary on March 4 in Shanghai. And the growth continues: the opening of new branches in China is planned for this year.

Rieck has been active on the Chinese market for over 25 years. Having most recently been the majority shareholder in a joint venture, the international logistics service provider launched its own company, Rieck Sea Air Cargo International in Shanghai, or RSACI (Shanghai) for short, last year. “We decided to set up the new company because Rieck wants to operate more independently and flexibly in China in future,” says Oliver-Karsten Thormählen, Managing Director of Rieck Sea Air Cargo International. “The development in the first year confirms that this was the right step. We have been able to expand both our customer and our product portfolio.”

RSACI (Shanghai) is now also connected to the IT system of the Rieck Logistics Group. This uniform IT solution ensures improved, standardized workflows and globally transparent processes, fewer interfaces and therefore more security in the supply chain.

RSACI (Shanghai) celebrated its successful first independent year on March 4. Around 60 guests met in the Beaufort Terrace of the historic Yu Garden in Shanghai – including customers from China and Germany, Rieck shareholders Hartmut Rieck and Philipp Strenge, the Managing Directors of RSACI, Oliver-Karsten Thormählen and Frank Rottmann-Simon, as well as the host Shiye Zhou, Managing Director Greater China at Rieck Sea Air Cargo International and Board Director of RSACI (Shanghai). During the “Shanghai Menu”, Philipp Strenge emphasized the importance of the new company for customers from Germany and China.

Rieck has had an extensive network of reliable partners in China and around the world for years. “This enabled us to quickly gain a foothold in China with our own company in the first year,” says Shiye Zhou. “Now we want to further expand intermodal transportation within the country.” Contract logistics and overland transportation in China are integrated into the Sea Air Cargo division. E-commerce customers in the Fulfillment division, for example, also benefit from these synergies. Rieck is planning further growth in China over the course of the year. “The aim is to establish around ten branches in the next five years,” explains Philipp Strenge.

Rieck offers customized logistics services for almost all sectors in China. Its long-standing customers include companies from the automotive sector, household and consumer electronics, the toy and food industries as well as the medical, chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical engineering sectors. In addition to traditional export services such as procurement and consolidation, the services offered also include import processing, deconsolidation, interim storage and distribution.
